Reference – When the devastating battle of Mahabharata was about to take place on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, the armies of the Pandavas and the Kauravas were standing face to face. The war cry was about to be blown, but then Arjuna was deeply confused. He saw that his own Guru, brother, and relatives were standing in front of him, against whom he had to fight. Arjuna’s heart was filled with emotion at the thought, his hands began to tremble, and he put down his bow.
Arjuna said to Lord Krishna, “Madhusudana! How can I kill my own brothers and relatives? This war will be disastrous. I am unable to understand the difference between Dharma and Adharma. My thoughts are getting confused. I do not want to fight.”

Contemplation – When a person thinks about subjects (material pleasures) repeatedly, they get deeply embedded in his mind.
Attachment – Due to repeated thinking, attachment to them increases.
Kaam (Desire) – When this attachment becomes strong, the person starts having an intense desire to get it.
Anger – If a thing is not obtained or there is an obstacle, then the person becomes angry.
Srimad Bhagvad Geeta Shlok – Bhagwat Gita Shlok – 2.62
Dhyānāt viṣayaṁ puṁsaḥ, saṅgas teṣūpajāyate।
Saṅgāt sañjāyate kāmaḥ, kāmāt krodho’bhijāyate।।
ध्यानात् विसयं पुंसः सङ्गस्तेषूपजायते।
सङ्गात् संजायते कामः कामात् क्रोधोऽभिजायते।।
Lord Krishna Says – By meditating on objects (sensual pleasures), a person gets attached to them. Attachment gives rise to desire (kamana), and when the desire is not fulfilled, anger arises.
- This verse helps us understand how important it is to control the mind
- Not controlling desires and attachments ultimately leads to anger and mental unrest.
- Therefore, Sri Krishna teaches us that we must control the senses and act judiciously.

Lord Krishna Says – Arjun, Anger is Highly Destructive. When a person becomes angry, they lose clarity of thought and become deluded. This delusion leads to forgetfulness, causing them to lose awareness of their wisdom and experiences. When memory is lost, the intellect (discerning ability) is destroyed, making it impossible to make rational decisions. Ultimately, this leads to a person’s downfall. Thus, practicing patience, self-control, and inner peace is essential to avoid the negative impact of anger and lead a successful life.
