Geeta Shlok : जब कुरुक्षेत्र में महाभारत का युद्ध होने वाला था। और अर्जुन युद्ध करने के लिए तैयार नहीं थे। तो भगवान कृष्ण ने उन्हें बहुत समझाया और जो उन्हें उपदेश दिया उसे आज हम गीता श्लोक के नाम से जानते हैं। गीता श्लोक को भगवान कृष्ण ने 18 अध्याय में बांटा है। और 700 श्लोक गीता में है। गीता श्लोक को बहुत से फेमस व्यक्ति महात्मा गांधी से लेकर अल्बर्ट आइंस्टीन और स्वामी विवेकानंद जैसे महान हस्ती गीता श्लोक को बहुत मानते थे।

गीता श्लोक आज से 5700 वर्ष से पहले कहा गया था लेकिन आज भी गीता श्लोक का महत्व उतना ही है जितना महत्व महाभारत युद्ध के समय था। महाभारत युद्ध से पहले भी गीता श्लोक को भगवान विष्णु ने भगवान सूर्य को सुनाया था। लेकिन भगवान सूर्य से गीता श्लोक अधिक लोगों तक नहीं पहुंच पाया था। लेकिन जब भगवान श्री कृष्ण ने भगवत गीता को महाभारत युद्ध के समय अर्जुन को समझाया तो पूरे विश्व में गीता श्लोक का प्रचार हुआ।

गीता श्लोक में भगवान श्री कृष्ण ने बहुत से बातें अर्जुन को सुने है। जिसे हम आज इस वेबसाइट पर कुछ महत्वपूर्ण श्लोक के बारे में देखेंगे। जब आप गीता श्लोक को पढ़ लेते हैं या किसी से सुन लेते हैं तो आपको जीने और मरने का डर दिल से निकल जाता है। हमें बिना किसी फल की चिंता किए हुए कर्म करना चाहिए। क्योंकि कर्म करना हमारे वश में है लेकिन परिणाम हमारे पास में नहीं है। इसलिए जो हमारे बस में है वह हमें करना चाहिए जो हमारे पास में नहीं है उसे हमें भगवान के हाथों में सौंप देना चाहिए। गीता हमें ऐसी बहुत सी बातें बताती है।

गीता श्लोक को हिंदू ही नहीं किसी और समुदाय के लोगों को भी पढ़ना चाहिए। क्योंकि गीता श्लोक भारत के लिए बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण है। और भारत विश्व का पहला सनातन धर्म वाला देश है। और भारत के धर्मगुरु को पूरा विश्व के लोग सम्मानित करते हैं। और भारत को विश्व गुरु भी कहा जाता था। इस देश में ऐसे ऐसे चमत्कार होते हैं। जो किसी अन्य देश में होना नामुमकिन है।

जो चमत्कार भगवान भारत में करते हैं वह चमत्कार वैज्ञानिकों के लिए भी नामुमकिन लगती है। महाभारत युद्ध जब हुआ तो स्वयं भगवान श्री कृष्णा जो भगवान विष्णु के अवतार हैं उन्होंने खुद गीता का उपदेश अर्जुन को दिया। और इस उपदेश को संजय ने देखा और सुना और महाराज धृतराष्ट्र को उसने बताया।

हिंदी अनुवाद: श्री कृष्ण कहते हैं की जब-जब धर्म की हानि और अधर्म की वृद्धि होती है तब तब मैं अपने स्वरूप की रचना करता हूँ।

English Translation: Shri Krishna says that whenever there is a decline in righteousness and increase in unrighteousness, then I create my form.

यमसमो बन्धु: कृत्वा यं नावसीदति।

हिंदी अनुवाद: मनुष्य के शरीर में रहने वाला आलस्य ही उनका सबसे बड़ा शत्रु होता है, परिश्रम जैसा दूसरा कोई अन्य मित्र नहीं होता क्योंकि परिश्रम करने वाला कभी दु:खी नहीं होता है।

English Translation: Laziness residing in human body is their biggest enemy, there is no other friend like hard work because the one who works hard is never sad.

सर्गाणामादिरन्तश्च मध्यं चैवाहमर्जुन।
अध्यात्मविद्या विद्यानां वादः प्रवदतामहम्॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: सृष्टियों का आदि और अंत तथा मध्य भी मैं ही हूँ। मैं विद्याओं में अध्यात्मविद्या और परस्पर विवाद करने वालों का तत्व-निर्णय के लिए किया जाने वाला वाद हूँ।

English Translation: I am the beginning, the end and the middle of the creations. I am the one who debates on spirituality and the essence of those who dispute with each other.

चिन्तया जायते दुःखं नान्यथेहेति निश्चयी।
तया हीनः सुखी शान्तः सर्वत्र गलितस्पृहः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: चिंता से ही दुःख उत्पन्न होते हैं किसी अन्य कारण से नहीं, ऐसा निश्चित रूप से जानने वाला, चिंता से रहित होकर सुखी, शांत और सभी इच्छाओं से मुक्त हो जाता है।

English Translation: One who knows this with certainty that sorrows arise from worry and not from any other reason, becomes free from worry and becomes happy, peaceful and free from all desires.

यद्यदाचरति श्रेष्ठस्तत्तदेवेतरो जनः।
स यत्प्रमाणं कुरुते लोकस्तदनुवर्तते॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: श्रेष्ठ पुरुष जो-जो आचरण करता है, अन्य पुरुष भी वैसा-वैसा ही आचरण करते हैं। वह जो कुछ प्रमाण कर देता है, समस्त मनुष्य-समुदाय उसी के अनुसार बरतने लग जाते है।

तस्य सञ्जनयन्हर्षं कुरुवृद्धः पितामह।
सिंहनादं विनद्योच्चैः शंख दध्मो प्रतापवान्‌॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: कौरवों में वृद्ध बड़े प्रतापी पितामह भीष्म ने उस दुर्योधन के हृदय में हर्ष उत्पन्न करते हुए उच्च स्वर से सिंह की दहाड़ के समान गरजकर शंख बजाय।

English Translation: Grandfather Bhishma, the oldest among the Kauravas, created joy in the heart of Duryodhana and blew his conch with a loud roar like the roar of a lion.

यो न हृष्यति न द्वेष्टि न शोचति न काङ्‍क्षति।
शुभाशुभपरित्यागी भक्तिमान्यः स मे प्रियः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: जो न कभी हर्षित होता है, न द्वेष करता है, न शोक करता है, न कामना करता है तथा जो शुभ और अशुभ सम्पूर्ण कर्मों का त्यागी है। वह भक्तियुक्त पुरुष मुझको प्रिय है।

English Translation: One who never rejoices, neither hates, nor mourns, nor desires and who renounces all actions, auspicious and inauspicious. I love that devoted man.

न हि कश्चित्क्षणमपि जातु तिष्ठत्यकर्मकृत्‌।
कार्यते ह्यवशः कर्म सर्वः प्रकृतिजैर्गुणैः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: निःसंदेह कोई भी मनुष्य किसी भी काल में क्षणमात्र भी बिना कर्म किए नहीं रहता क्योंकि सारा मनुष्य समुदाय प्रकृति जनित गुणों द्वारा परवश हुआ कर्म करने के लिए बाध्य किया जाता है।

English Translation: Undoubtedly, no human being remains without doing any work even for a moment at any time because the entire human community is forced to do work under the influence of qualities born from nature.

English Translation: The foolish person who stubbornly suppresses all the senses and keeps thinking about the objects of those senses in his mind is called a liar.

यो मामजमनादिं च वेत्ति लोकमहेश्वरम्‌।
असम्मूढः स मर्त्येषु सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: जो मुझको अजन्मा अर्थात्‌ वास्तव में जन्मरहित, अनादि और लोकों का महान्‌ ईश्वर तत्त्व से जानता है, वह मनुष्यों में ज्ञानवान्‌ पुरुष संपूर्ण पापों से मुक्त हो जाता है।

English Translation: He who knows Me as the unborn i.e. actually the birthless, the eternal and the great God of the worlds, that wise man among humans becomes free from all sins.

न कर्मणामनारंभान्नैष्कर्म्यं पुरुषोऽश्नुते।
न च सन्न्यसनादेव सिद्धिं समधिगच्छति॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: मनुष्य न तो कर्मों का आरंभ किए बिना योगनिष्ठा को प्राप्त होता है। और न कर्मों के केवल त्यागमात्र से सिद्धि को ही प्राप्त होता है।

English Translation: Man does not attain Yoganishtha without starting the Karmas. Nor is success achieved by mere renunciation of actions.

एतां विभूतिं योगं च मम यो वेत्ति तत्त्वतः।
सोऽविकम्पेन योगेन युज्यते नात्र संशयः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: जो पुरुष मेरी इस परमैश्वर्यरूप विभूति को और योगशक्ति को तत्त्व से जानता है। वह निश्चल भक्तियोग से युक्त हो जाता है। इसमें कुछ भी संशय नहीं है।

English Translation: The man who knows my divine power and the power of yoga in essence. He becomes imbued with steadfast devotion. There is no doubt in this.

अन्नाद्भवन्ति भूतानि पर्जन्यादन्नसम्भवः।
यज्ञाद्भवति पर्जन्यो यज्ञः कर्मसमुद्भवः॥
कर्म ब्रह्मोद्भवं विद्धि ब्रह्माक्षरसमुद्भवम्‌।
तस्मात्सर्वगतं ब्रह्म नित्यं यज्ञे प्रतिष्ठितम्‌॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: सम्पूर्ण प्राणी अन्न से उत्पन्न होते हैं, अन्न की उत्पत्ति वृष्टि से होती है, वृष्टि यज्ञ से होती है और यज्ञ विहित कर्मों से उत्पन्न होने वाला है। कर्मसमुदाय को तू वेद से उत्पन्न और वेद को अविनाशी परमात्मा से उत्पन्न हुआ जान। इससे सिद्ध होता है कि सर्वव्यापी परम अक्षर परमात्मा सदा ही यज्ञ में प्रतिष्ठित है।

English Translation: All living beings are born from food, food is born from rain, rain is born from Yagya and Yagya is born from prescribed actions. Know that the community of actions is born from the Vedas and the Vedas are born from the imperishable God. This proves that the omnipresent Supreme God is always present in the Yagya.

विद्याविनयसंपन्ने ब्राह्मणे गवि हस्तिनि।
शुनि चैव श्वपाके च पंडिता: समदर्शिन:॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: ज्ञानी महापुरुष विद्या-विनययुक्त ब्राह्मण में और चाण्डाल में तथा गाय, हाथी एवं कुत्ते में भी समरूप परमात्मा को देखने वाले होते हैं।

English Translation: Knowledgeable great men see the identical God in the learned Brahmin and in the Chandal and also in the cow, elephant and dog.

अक्षरं ब्रह्म परमं स्वभावोऽध्यात्ममुच्यते।
भूतभावोद्भवकरो विसर्गः कर्मसंज्ञित।।

हिंदी अनुवाद: श्री भगवान ने कहा- परम अक्षर ‘ब्रह्म’ है, अपना स्वरूप अर्थात जीवात्मा ‘अध्यात्म’ नाम से कहा जाता है तथा भूतों के भाव को उत्पन्न करने वाला जो त्याग है, वह ‘कर्म’ नाम से कहा गया है।

अंतकाले च मामेव स्मरन्मुक्त्वा कलेवरम्‌।
यः प्रयाति स मद्भावं याति नास्त्यत्र संशयः॥

English Translation: The man who leaves his body remembering Me even in his last days, attains My true form – there is no doubt in this.

तं विद्याद् दुःखसंयोगवियोगं योगसञ्ज्ञितम्।
स निश्चयेन योक्तव्यो योगोऽनिर्विण्णचेतसा॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: जो दुःख रूप संसार के संयोग से रहित है तथा जिसका नाम योग है, उसको जानना चाहिए। वह योग धैर्य और उत्साहयुक्त चित्त से निश्चयपूर्वक करना कर्तव्य है।

English Translation: One should know that which is free from the sorrows of the world and whose name is Yoga. It is the duty to do that yoga with determination, with patience and an enthusiastic mind.

यस्त्वात्मरतिरेव स्यादात्मतृप्तश्च मानवः।
आत्मन्येव च सन्तुष्टस्तस्य कार्यं न विद्यते॥

English Translation: Neither am I this body nor is this body mine, I am the embodiment of knowledge, the one who knows this definitely attains liberation. He does not remember the deeds done (past) and not done (future).

एवमेतद्यथात्थ त्वमात्मानं परमेश्वर।
द्रष्टुमिच्छामि ते रूपमैश्वरं पुरुषोत्तम॥

आपदः संपदः काले दैवादेवेति निश्चयी।
तृप्तः स्वस्थेन्द्रियो नित्यं न वान्छति न शोचति॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: संपत्ति (सुख) और विपत्ति (दुःख) का समय प्रारब्धवश है, ऐसा निश्चित रूप से जानने वाला संतोष और निरंतर संयमित इन्द्रियों से युक्त हो जाता है। वह न इच्छा करता है और न शोक।

English Translation: One who knows with certainty that the times of wealth (happiness) and calamity (sorrow) are determined by destiny, becomes content and has constantly controlled senses. He neither wishes nor mourns.

यदा सत्त्वे प्रवृद्धे तु प्रलयं याति देहभृत्‌।
तदोत्तमविदां लोकानमलान्प्रतिपद्यते॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: जब यह मनुष्य सत्त्वगुण की वृद्धि में मृत्यु को प्राप्त होता है, तब तो उत्तम कर्म करने वालों के निर्मल दिव्य स्वर्गादि लोकों को प्राप्त होता है।

English Translation: When this man dies in the growth of Sattva Guna, then those who do good deeds attain the pure divine heavenly worlds.

कर्मणः सुकृतस्याहुः सात्त्विकं निर्मलं फलम्‌।
रजसस्तु फलं दुःखमज्ञानं तमसः फलम्‌॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: श्रेष्ठ कर्म का तो सात्त्विक अर्थात् सुख, ज्ञान और वैराग्यादि निर्मल फल कहा है, राजस कर्म का फल दुःख एवं तामस कर्म का फल अज्ञान कहा है।

English Translation: The result of virtuous action is said to be Sattvik i.e. happiness, knowledge and renunciation etc., the result of Rajasic action is said to be sorrow and the result of Tamasic action is said to be ignorance.

मानापमानयोस्तुल्यस्तुल्यो मित्रारिपक्षयोः।
सर्वारम्भपरित्यागी गुणातीतः सा उच्यते॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: जो मान और अपमान में सम है, मित्र और वैरी के पक्ष में भी सम है एवं सम्पूर्ण आरम्भों में कर्तापन के अभिमान से रहित है, वह पुरुष गुणातीत कहा जाता हैूँ।

English Translation: The man who is equal in honor and insult, is equal in favor of friend and foe and is free from the pride of being a doer in all beginnings, is called Gunateet.

सर्वद्वारेषु देहेऽस्मिन्प्रकाश उपजायते।
ज्ञानं यदा तदा विद्याद्विवृद्धं सत्त्वमित्युत॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: जिस समय इस देह में तथा अन्तः करण और इन्द्रियों में चेतनता और विवेक शक्ति उत्पन्न होती है, उस समय ऐसा जानना चाहिए कि सत्त्वगुण बढ़ा है।

English Translation: At the time when consciousness and discrimination power arises in the body, conscience and senses, at that time it should be known that the Sattva Guna has increased.

यत्साङ्‍ख्यैः प्राप्यते स्थानं तद्यौगैरपि गम्यते।
एकं साङ्‍ख्यं च योगं च यः पश्यति स पश्यति॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: ज्ञान योगियों द्वारा जो परमधाम प्राप्त किया जाता है, कर्मयोगियों द्वारा भी वही प्राप्त किया जाता है। इसलिए जो पुरुष ज्ञानयोग और कर्मयोग को फलरूप में एक देखता है, वही यथार्थ देखता है।

English Translation: The same supreme abode which is attained by Gyan Yogis is also attained by Karma Yogis. Therefore, the person who sees the results of Gyan Yoga and Karma Yoga as one, only he sees the reality.

न कर्तृत्वं न कर्माणि लोकस्य सृजति प्रभुः।
न कर्मफलसंयोगं स्वभावस्तु प्रवर्तते॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: परमेश्वर मनुष्यों के न तो कर्तापन की, न कर्मों की और न कर्मफल के संयोग की रचना करते हैं, किन्तु स्वभाव ही बर्त रहा है।

English Translation: God neither creates the doers, nor the actions, nor the coincidence of the results of the human beings, but nature itself is behaving.

नादत्ते कस्यचित्पापं न चैव सुकृतं विभुः।
अज्ञानेनावृतं ज्ञानं तेन मुह्यन्ति जन्तवः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: सर्वव्यापी परमेश्वर भी न किसी के पाप कर्म को और न किसी के शुभकर्म को ही ग्रहण करता है, किन्तु अज्ञान द्वारा ज्ञान ढँका हुआ है, उसी से सब अज्ञानी मनुष्य मोहित हो रहे हैं।

English Translation: Even the omnipresent God neither accepts anyone’s sinful deeds nor anyone’s good deeds, but knowledge is covered by ignorance, due to which all the ignorant people are getting fascinated.

तद्‍बुद्धयस्तदात्मानस्तन्निष्ठास्तत्परायणाः।
गच्छन्त्यपुनरावृत्तिं ज्ञाननिर्धूतकल्मषाः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: जिनका मन तद्रूप हो रहा है, जिनकी बुद्धि तद्रूप हो रही है और सच्चिदानन्दघन परमात्मा में ही जिनकी निरंतर एकीभाव से स्थिति है, ऐसे तत्परायण पुरुष ज्ञान द्वारा पापरहित होकर अपुनरावृत्ति को अर्थात परमगति को प्राप्त होते हैं।

English Translation: Those whose mind is at the same level, whose intellect is at the same level and whose state is in constant unity with the True God, such ready-willed men become free from sin through knowledge and attain the ultimate path.

शक्नोतीहैव यः सोढुं प्राक्शरीरविमोक्षणात्‌।
कामक्रोधोद्भवं वेगं स युक्तः स सुखी नरः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: जो साधक इस मनुष्य शरीर में, शरीर का नाश होने से पहले-पहले ही काम-क्रोध से उत्पन्न होने वाले वेग को सहन करने में समर्थ हो जाता है, वही पुरुष योगी है और वही सुखी है।

English Translation: The seeker who, in this human body, is able to tolerate the urges arising from lust and anger even before the body gets destroyed, is a yogi and is happy.

लभन्ते ब्रह्मनिर्वाणमृषयः क्षीणकल्मषाः।
छिन्नद्वैधा यतात्मानः सर्वभूतहिते रताः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: जिनके सब पाप नष्ट हो गए हैं, जिनके सब संशय ज्ञान द्वारा निवृत्त हो गए हैं, जो सम्पूर्ण प्राणियों के हित में रत हैं और जिनका जीता हुआ मन निश्चलभाव से परमात्मा में स्थित है, वे ब्रह्मवेत्ता पुरुष शांत ब्रह्म को प्राप्त होते हैं।

English Translation: Those whose sins have been destroyed, whose doubts have been put to rest by knowledge, who are engaged in the welfare of all living beings and whose won mind is fixed on God without rest, those men of knowledge of Brahma attain the peaceful Brahma.

परित्राणाय साधूनां विनाशाय च दुष्कृताम्।
धर्मसंस्थापनार्थाय सम्भवामि युगे युगे॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: साधुओं की रक्षा के लिए, दुष्कर्मियों का विनाश करने के लिए, धर्म की स्थापना के लिए मैं युग युग में मानव के रूप में अवतार लेता हूँ। 

English Translation: To protect the saints, to destroy evildoers and to establish religion, I incarnate in human form in every age.

स्वयमेवात्मनात्मानं वेत्थ त्वं पुरुषोत्तम।
भूतभावन भूतेश देवदेव जगत्पते॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: हे भूतों को उत्पन्न करने वाले! हे भूतों के ईश्वर! हे देवों के देव! हे जगत्‌ के स्वामी! हे पुरुषोत्तम! आप स्वयं ही अपने से अपने को जानते हैं।

English Translation: O creator of ghosts! O God of ghosts! O God of gods! O Lord of the world! Hey Purushottam! You yourself know yourself.

कथं विद्यामहं योगिंस्त्वां सदा परिचिन्तयन्‌।
केषु केषु च भावेषु चिन्त्योऽसि भगवन्मया॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: हे योगेश्वर! मैं किस प्रकार निरंतर चिंतन करता हुआ आपको जानूँ और हे भगवन्‌! आप किन-किन भावों में मेरे द्वारा चिंतन करने योग्य हैं?

English Translation: Oh Yogeshwar! How can I know You by thinking continuously and oh Lord! In which ways are you worthy of being contemplated by me?

वेदानां सामवेदोऽस्मि देवानामस्मि वासवः।
इंद्रियाणां मनश्चास्मि भूतानामस्मि चेतना॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: मैं वेदों में सामवेद हूँ, देवों में इंद्र हूँ, इंद्रियों में मन हूँ और भूत प्राणियों की चेतना हूँ।

English Translation: I am Samaveda among the Vedas, I am Indra among the gods, I am the mind among the senses and I am the consciousness of ghosts.

रुद्राणां शङ्‍करश्चास्मि वित्तेशो यक्षरक्षसाम्‌।
वसूनां पावकश्चास्मि मेरुः शिखरिणामहम्‌।।

हिंदी अनुवाद: मैं एकादश रुद्रों में शंकर हूँ और यक्ष तथा राक्षसों में धन का स्वामी कुबेर हूँ। मैं आठ वसुओं में अग्नि हूँ और शिखरवाले पर्वतों में सुमेरु पर्वत हूँ।

English Translation: I am Shankar among the eleven Rudras and Kuber, the lord of wealth among the Yakshas and demons. I am Agni among the eight Vasus and I am Mount Sumeru among the peaked mountains.

बुद्धिर्ज्ञानमसम्मोहः क्षमा सत्यं दमः शमः।
सुखं दुःखं भवोऽभावो भयं चाभयमेव च॥
अहिंसा समता तुष्टिस्तपो दानं यशोऽयशः।
भवन्ति भावा भूतानां मत्त एव पृथग्विधा॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: निश्चय करने की शक्ति, यथार्थ ज्ञान, असम्मूढ़ता, क्षमा, सत्य, इंद्रियों का वश में करना, मन का निग्रह तथा सुख-दुःख, उत्पत्ति-प्रलय और भय-अभय तथा अहिंसा, समता, संतोष तप, दान, कीर्ति और अपकीर्ति- ऐसे ये प्राणियों के नाना प्रकार के भाव मुझसे ही होते हैं।

English Translation: Power of determination, accurate knowledge, incomprehensibility, forgiveness, truth, control of senses, control of mind and happiness-sorrow, origin-destruction and fear-fearlessness and non-violence, equanimity, contentment, penance, charity, fame and infamy – such These different types of emotions of living beings come from me only.

पवनः पवतामस्मि रामः शस्त्रभृतामहम्‌।
झषाणां मकरश्चास्मि स्रोतसामस्मि जाह्नवी॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: मैं पवित्र करने वालों में वायु और शस्त्रधारियों में श्रीराम हूँ तथा मछलियों में मगर हूँ और नदियों में श्री भागीरथी गंगाजी हूँ।

English Translation: I am the one who purifies the air, I am Shri Ram among the weapon bearers, I am the crocodile among the fishes and I am Shri Bhagirathi Gangaji among the rivers.

कस्माच्च ते न नमेरन्महात्मन्‌ गरीयसे ब्रह्मणोऽप्यादिकर्त्रे।
अनन्त देवेश जगन्निवास त्वमक्षरं सदसत्तत्परं यत्‌॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: हे महात्मन्‌! ब्रह्मा के भी आदिकर्ता और सबसे बड़े आपके लिए वे कैसे नमस्कार न करें क्योंकि हे अनन्त! हे देवेश! हे जगन्निवास! जो सत्‌, असत्‌ और उनसे परे अक्षर अर्थात सच्चिदानन्दघन ब्रह्म है, वह आप ही हैं।

English Translation: Oh great man! How can they not pay obeisance to you, the originator and greatest of Brahma, because oh infinite! Hey Devesh! Oh Jagannivas! You are the one who is true, false and beyond them i.e. Sachchidanandaghan Brahma.

यदि मामप्रतीकारमशस्त्रं शस्त्रपाणयः।
धार्तराष्ट्रा रणे हन्युस्तन्मे क्षेमतरं भवेत्‌॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: यदि मुझ शस्त्ररहित एवं सामना न करने वाले को शस्त्र हाथ में लिए हुए धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्र रण में मार डालें तो वह मारना भी मेरे लिए अधिक कल्याणकारक होगा।

English Translation: If the son of Dhritarashtra, armed with a weapon, kills me in battle, who is unarmed and unable to fight, then that killing will also be more beneficial for me.

धर्मक्षेत्रे कुरुक्षेत्रे समवेता युयुत्सवः।
मामकाः पाण्डवाश्चैव किमकुर्वत संजय॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: धृतराष्ट्र बोले- हे संजय! धर्मभूमि कुरुक्षेत्र में एकत्रित, युद्ध की इच्छावाले मेरे और पाण्डु के पुत्रों ने क्या किया?

English Translation: Dhritarashtra said- Hey Sanjay! What did I and the sons of Pandu, desirous of war, do when they gathered in the sacred land of Kurukshetra?

संकरो नरकायैव कुलघ्नानां कुलस्य च।
पतन्ति पितरो ह्येषां लुप्तपिण्डोदकक्रियाः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: वर्णसंकर कुलघातियों को और कुल को नरक में ले जाने के लिए ही होता है। लुप्त हुई पिण्ड और जल की क्रिया वाले अर्थात श्राद्ध और तर्पण से वंचित इनके पितर लोग भी अधोगति को प्राप्त होते हैं।

English Translation: Varnasankar is meant only to take the murderers and the clan to hell. Those whose bodies and water rituals have disappeared, i.e. their ancestors who are deprived of Shraddha and Tarpan, also suffer degradation.

अहो बत महत्पापं कर्तुं व्यवसिता वयम्‌।
यद्राज्यसुखलोभेन हन्तुं स्वजनमुद्यताः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: हा! शोक! हम लोग बुद्धिमान होकर भी महान पाप करने को तैयार हो गए हैं, जो राज्य और सुख के लोभ से स्वजनों को मारने के लिए उद्यत हो गए हैं।

English Translation: Ha! Mourning! Despite being intelligent, we have become ready to commit great sins, ready to kill our own people out of greed for kingdom and happiness.

अधर्माभिभवात्कृष्ण प्रदुष्यन्ति कुलस्त्रियः।
स्त्रीषु दुष्टासु वार्ष्णेय जायते वर्णसंकरः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: हे कृष्ण! पाप के अधिक बढ़ जाने से कुल की स्त्रियाँ अत्यन्त दूषित हो जाती हैं और हे वार्ष्णेय! स्त्रियों के दूषित हो जाने पर वर्णसंकर उत्पन्न होता है।

English Translation: Hey Krishna! Due to increase in sin the women of the family become extremely polluted and O Varshneya! When women become infected, hybrids arise.

कुलक्षये प्रणश्यन्ति कुलधर्माः सनातनाः।

धर्मे नष्टे कुलं कृत्स्नमधर्मोऽभिभवत्युत॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: कुल के नाश से सनातन कुल-धर्म नष्ट हो जाते हैं तथा धर्म का नाश हो जाने पर सम्पूर्ण कुल में पाप भी बहुत फैल जाता है।

English Translation: With the destruction of the family, the eternal family religion gets destroyed and when the religion is destroyed, sin also spreads widely in the entire family.

यद्यप्येते न पश्यन्ति लोभोपहतचेतसः।
कुलक्षयकृतं दोषं मित्रद्रोहे च पातकम्‌॥
कथं न ज्ञेयमस्माभिः पापादस्मान्निवर्तितुम्‌।
कुलक्षयकृतं दोषं प्रपश्यद्भिर्जनार्दन॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: यद्यपि लोभ से भ्रष्टचित्त हुए ये लोग कुल के नाश से उत्पन्न दोष को और मित्रों से विरोध करने में पाप को नहीं देखते, तो भी हे जनार्दन! कुल के नाश से उत्पन्न दोष को जानने वाले हम लोगों को इस पाप से हटने के लिए क्यों नहीं विचार करना चाहिए?

English Translation: Even though these people, corrupted by greed, do not see the sin arising from the destruction of the family and the sin in opposing their friends, yet O Janardan! Why should we, who are aware of the evil caused by the destruction of the clan, not consider turning away from this sin?

न काङ्‍क्षे विजयं कृष्ण न च राज्यं सुखानि च।
किं नो राज्येन गोविंद किं भोगैर्जीवितेन वा॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: हे कृष्ण! मैं न तो विजय चाहता हूँ और न राज्य तथा सुखों को ही। हे गोविंद! हमें ऐसे राज्य से क्या प्रयोजन है अथवा ऐसे भोगों से और जीवन से भी क्या लाभ है?

English Translation: Hey Krishna! I neither want victory nor kingdom and happiness. Hey Govind! What use do we have from such a state or what is the benefit from such pleasures and from life itself?

निहत्य धार्तराष्ट्रान्न का प्रीतिः स्याज्जनार्दन।
पापमेवाश्रयेदस्मान्‌ हत्वैतानाततायिनः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: हे जनार्दन! धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों को मारकर हमें क्या प्रसन्नता होगी? इन आतताइयों को मारकर तो हमें पाप ही लगेगा।

English Translation: Hey Janardan! What pleasure will we get by killing the sons of Dhritarashtra? By killing these terrorists, we will only feel guilty.

एतान्न हन्तुमिच्छामि घ्नतोऽपि मधुसूदन।
अपि त्रैलोक्यराज्यस्य हेतोः किं नु महीकृते॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: हे मधुसूदन! मुझे मारने पर भी अथवा तीनों लोकों के राज्य के लिए भी मैं इन सबको मारना नहीं चाहता, फिर पृथ्वी के लिए तो कहना ही क्या है?

English Translation: Hey Madhusudan! I don’t want to kill all of them even if they kill me or for the sake of the kingdom of the three worlds, what can I say about the earth?

येषामर्थे काङक्षितं नो राज्यं भोगाः सुखानि च।
त इमेऽवस्थिता युद्धे प्राणांस्त्यक्त्वा धनानि च॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: हमें जिनके लिए राज्य, भोग और सुखादि अभीष्ट हैं, वे ही ये सब धन और जीवन की आशा को त्यागकर युद्ध में खड़े है। 

English Translation: Those for whom we desire kingdom, pleasures and happiness, they are the ones who have given up all the hopes of wealth and life and are standing in the war.

निमित्तानि च पश्यामि विपरीतानि केशव।
न च श्रेयोऽनुपश्यामि हत्वा स्वजनमाहवे॥

हिंदी अनुवाद:  हे केशव! मैं लक्षणों को भी विपरीत ही देख रहा हूँ तथा युद्ध में स्वजन-समुदाय को मारकर कल्याण भी नहीं देखता।

English Translation: Hey Keshav! I see the opposite symptoms and do not see any benefit in killing my own people in war.

दृष्टेवमं स्वजनं कृष्ण युयुत्सुं समुपस्थितम्‌॥
सीदन्ति मम गात्राणि मुखं च परिशुष्यति।
वेपथुश्च शरीरे में रोमहर्षश्च जायते॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: अर्जुन बोले- हे कृष्ण! युद्ध क्षेत्र में डटे हुए युद्ध के अभिलाषी इस स्वजन समुदाय को देखकर मेरे अंग शिथिल हुए जा रहे हैं और मुख सूखा जा रहा है तथा मेरे शरीर में कम्प एवं रोमांच हो रहा है।

English Translation: Arjun said- O Krishna! Seeing this war-loving family standing firm in the battlefield, my limbs are becoming weak, my mouth is becoming dry and my body is feeling shivers and thrill.

एवमुक्तो हृषीकेशो गुडाकेशेन भारत।
सेनयोरुभयोर्मध्ये स्थापयित्वा रथोत्तमम्‌॥
भीष्मद्रोणप्रमुखतः सर्वेषां च महीक्षिताम्‌।
उवाच पार्थ पश्यैतान्‌ समवेतान्‌ कुरूनिति॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: संजय बोले- हे महाराज धृतराष्ट्र! अर्जुन द्वारा कहे अनुसार महाराज श्रीकृष्णचंद्र ने दोनों सेनाओं के बीच में भीष्म और द्रोणाचार्य के सामने तथा सम्पूर्ण राजाओं के सामने उत्तम रथ को खड़ा कर इस प्रकार कहा कि हे पार्थ! युद्ध के लिए जुटे हुए इन कौरवों को देख।

English Translation: Sanjay said- Oh King Dhritarashtra! As told by Arjun, Maharaja Shri Krishnachandra made the best chariot stand between the two armies, in front of Bhishma and Dronacharya and in front of all the kings and said thus, O Partha! Look at these Kauravas gathered for war.

तस्मान्नार्हा वयं हन्तुं धार्तराष्ट्रान्स्वबान्धवान्‌।
स्वजनं हि कथं हत्वा सुखिनः स्याम माधव॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: अतएव हे माधव! अपने ही बान्धव धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों को मारने के लिए हम योग्य नहीं हैं क्योंकि अपने ही कुटुम्ब को मारकर हम कैसे सुखी होंगे?

English Translation: Therefore O Madhav! We are not worthy of killing the sons of our own kinsman Dhritarashtra because how can we be happy by killing our own family?

योत्स्यमानानवेक्षेऽहं य एतेऽत्र समागताः।
धार्तराष्ट्रस्य दुर्बुद्धेर्युद्धे प्रियचिकीर्षवः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद:  दुर्बुद्धि दुर्योधन का युद्ध में हित चाहने वाले जो-जो ये राजा लोग इस सेना में आए हैं, इन युद्ध करने वालों को मैं देखूँगा।

English Translation: I will see all those kings who have come to this army, wanting to benefit the foolish Duryodhana in the war, these warriors.

अथ व्यवस्थितान्दृष्ट्वा धार्तराष्ट्रान्‌ कपिध्वजः।
प्रवृत्ते शस्त्रसम्पाते धनुरुद्यम्य पाण्डवः॥
हृषीकेशं तदा वाक्यमिदमाह महीपते।
सेनयोरुभयोर्मध्ये रथं स्थापय मेऽच्युत॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: हे राजन्‌! इसके बाद कपिध्वज अर्जुन ने मोर्चा बाँधकर डटे हुए धृतराष्ट्र-संबंधियों को देखकर, उस शस्त्र चलने की तैयारी के समय धनुष उठाकर हृषीकेश श्रीकृष्ण महाराज से यह वचन कहा- हे अच्युत! मेरे रथ को दोनों सेनाओं के बीच में खड़ा कीजिए।

English Translation: O king! After this, Kapidhwaj Arjun, seeing Dhritarashtra’s relatives standing in front, while preparing to launch that weapon, raised his bow and said these words to Hrishikesh Shri Krishna Maharaj – O Achyut! Place my chariot between the two armies.

काश्यश्च परमेष्वासः शिखण्डी च महारथः।
धृष्टद्युम्नो विराटश्च सात्यकिश्चापराजितः॥
रुपदो द्रौपदेयाश्च सर्वशः पृथिवीपते।
सौभद्रश्च महाबाहुः शंखान्दध्मुः पृथक्पृथक्‌॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: श्रेष्ठ धनुष वाले काशिराज और महारथी शिखण्डी एवं धृष्टद्युम्न तथा राजा विराट और अजेय सात्यकि, राजा द्रुपद एवं द्रौपदी के पाँचों पुत्र और बड़ी भुजावाले सुभद्रा पुत्र अभिमन्यु- इन सभी ने, हे राजन्‌! सब ओर से अलग-अलग शंख बजाए।

English Translation: King of Kashi and the mighty warrior Shikhandi and Dhrishtadyumna with the best bow, King Virat and the invincible Satyaki, King Drupada and the five sons of Draupadi and Subhadra’s son Abhimanyu with big arms – all of them, O King! Different conch shells were blown from all sides.

आरम्भगुर्वी क्षयिणी क्रमेण, लघ्वी पुरा वृद्धिमती च पश्चात्।
दिनस्य पूर्वार्द्धपरार्द्धभिन्ना, छायेव मैत्री खलसज्जनानाम्॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: दुर्जन की मित्रता शुरुआत में बड़ी अच्छी होती है और क्रमशः कम होने वाली होती है। सज्जन व्यक्ति की मित्रता पहले कम और बाद में बढ़ने वाली होती है। इस प्रकार से दिन के पूर्वार्ध और परार्ध में अलग-अलग दिखने वाली छाया के जैसी दुर्जन और सज्जनों व्यक्तियों की मित्रता होती है।

English Translation: The friendship of an evil person is very good in the beginning and gradually diminishes. The friendship of a gentleman is small at first and then increases. In this way, the friendship between the wicked and the noble people is like the shadows appearing differently in the first half and second half of the day.

अनन्तविजयं राजा कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः।
नकुलः सहदेवश्च सुघोषमणिपुष्पकौ॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: कुन्तीपुत्र राजा युधिष्ठिर ने अनन्तविजय नामक और नकुल तथा सहदेव ने सुघोष और मणिपुष्पक नामक शंख बजाए।

English Translation: Kunti’s son King Yudhishthir blew the conch called Anantvijaya and Nakul and Sahadeva blew the conch called Sughosh and Manipushpak.

पाञ्चजन्यं हृषीकेशो देवदत्तं धनञ्जयः।
पौण्ड्रं दध्मौ महाशंख भीमकर्मा वृकोदरः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: श्रीकृष्ण महाराज ने पाञ्चजन्य नामक, अर्जुन ने देवदत्त नामक और भयानक कर्मवाले भीमसेन ने पौण्ड्र नामक महाशंख बजाये।

English Translation: Shri Krishna Maharaj blew the conch named Panchjanya, Arjun blew the conch named Devdutt and Bhimsen, the one with terrible deeds, blew the great conch named Paundra.

ततः श्वेतैर्हयैर्युक्ते महति स्यन्दने स्थितौ।
माधवः पाण्डवश्चैव दिव्यौ शंखौ प्रदध्मतुः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: इसके अनन्तर सफेद घोड़ों से युक्त उत्तम रथ में बैठे हुए श्रीकृष्ण महाराज और अर्जुन ने भी अलौकिक शंख बजाए।

English Translation: After this, Shri Krishna Maharaj and Arjun, sitting in a beautiful chariot with white horses, also blew supernatural conch shells.

ततः शंखाश्च भेर्यश्च पणवानकगोमुखाः।
सहसैवाभ्यहन्यन्त स शब्दस्तुमुलोऽभवत्‌॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: इसके पश्चात शंख और नगाड़े तथा ढोल, मृदंग और नरसिंघे आदि बाजे एक साथ ही बज उठे। उनका वह शब्द बड़ा भयंकर हुआ।

English Translation: After this, conch shells and drums, drums, mridangam and horns etc. were blown simultaneously. That word of his was very terrible.

English Translation: That army of ours, protected by Bhishma Pitamah, is invincible in every way and this army of these people, protected by Bhima, is easy to win.

अस्माकं तु विशिष्टा ये तान्निबोध द्विजोत्तम।
नायका मम सैन्यस्य सञ्ज्ञार्थं तान्ब्रवीमि ते॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: हे ब्राह्मणश्रेष्ठ! अपने पक्ष में भी जो प्रधान हैं, उनको आप समझ लीजिए। आपकी जानकारी के लिए मेरी सेना के जो-जो सेनापति हैं, उनको बतलाता हूँ।

English Translation: Oh best Brahmin! You should understand those who are important on your side also. For your information, I will tell you all the commanders of my army.

अत्र शूरा महेष्वासा भीमार्जुनसमा युधि।
युयुधानो विराटश्च द्रुपदश्च महारथः॥
धृष्टकेतुश्चेकितानः काशिराजश्च वीर्यवान्‌।
पुरुजित्कुन्तिभोजश्च शैब्यश्च नरपुङवः॥
युधामन्युश्च विक्रान्त उत्तमौजाश्च वीर्यवान्‌।
सौभद्रो द्रौपदेयाश्च सर्व एव महारथाः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: इस सेना में बड़े-बड़े धनुषों वाले तथा युद्ध में भीम और अर्जुन के समान शूरवीर सात्यकि और विराट तथा महारथी राजा द्रुपद, धृष्टकेतु और चेकितान तथा बलवान काशिराज, पुरुजित, कुन्तिभोज और मनुष्यों में श्रेष्ठ शैब्य, पराक्रमी युधामन्यु तथा बलवान उत्तमौजा, सुभद्रापुत्र अभिमन्यु एवं द्रौपदी के पाँचों पुत्र- ये सभी महारथी हैं।

English Translation: In this army there were Satyaki and Virata, the mighty men with big bows and equal to Bhima and Arjuna in battle, King Drupada, Dhrishtaketu and Chekitana, the mighty king of Kashi, Purujit, Kuntibhoja and the best among men, Shaibya, the mighty Yudhamanyu and the strong Uttamauja, Subhadra’s son Abhimanyu and All the five sons of Draupadi are great warriors.

यावदेतान्निरीक्षेऽहं योद्धुकामानवस्थितान्‌।
कैर्मया सह योद्धव्यमस्मिन् रणसमुद्यमे॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: जब तक कि मैं युद्ध क्षेत्र में डटे हुए युद्ध के अभिलाषी इन विपक्षी योद्धाओं को भली प्रकार देख न लूँ कि इस युद्ध रूप व्यापार में मुझे किन-किन के साथ युद्ध करना योग्य है, तब तक उसे खड़ा रखिए।

English Translation: Keep him standing until I have a good look at these opposing warriors standing in the battlefield and who are all worthy of fighting with me in this war-like business.

पश्यैतां पाण्डुपुत्राणामाचार्य महतीं चमूम्‌।
व्यूढां द्रुपदपुत्रेण तव शिष्येण धीमता॥

हिंदी अनुवाद:  हे आचार्य! आपके बुद्धिमान्‌ शिष्य द्रुपदपुत्र धृष्टद्युम्न द्वारा व्यूहाकार खड़ी की हुई पाण्डुपुत्रों की इस बड़ी भारी सेना को देखिए।

English Translation: हे आचार्य! आपके बुद्धिमान्‌ शिष्य द्रुपदपुत्र धृष्टद्युम्न द्वारा व्यूहाकार खड़ी की हुई पाण्डुपुत्रों की इस बड़ी भारी सेना को देखिए।

न चोरहार्यं न च राजहार्यंन भ्रातृभाज्यं न च भारकारी।
व्यये कृते वर्धते एव नित्यं विद्याधनं सर्वधन प्रधानम्॥

English Translation: The wealth of knowledge cannot be stolen by anyone, the king cannot take it, it has no share among the brothers, it is not burdened, (and) it increases by spending. Truly, wealth in the form of knowledge is the best.

नास्ति विद्यासमो बन्धुर्नास्ति विद्यासमः सुहृत्।
नास्ति विद्यासमं वित्तं नास्ति विद्यासमं सुखम्॥

सर्वद्रव्येषु विद्यैव द्रव्यमाहुरनुत्तमम्।
अहार्यत्वादनर्ध्यत्वादक्षयत्वाच्च सर्वदा॥

विद्या नाम नरस्य रूपमधिकं प्रच्छन्नगुप्तं धनम् विद्या भोगकरी यशः सुखकरी विद्या गुरूणां गुरुः।
विद्या बन्धुजनो विदेशगमने विद्या परं दैवतम् विद्या राजसु पूज्यते न हि धनं विद्याविहीनः पशुः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: विद्या इन्सान का विशिष्ट रुप है, गुप्त धन है। वह भोग देनेवाली, यशदात्री, और सुखकारक है। विद्या गुरुओं का गुरु है, विदेश में वह इन्सान की बंधु है। विद्या बडी देवता है; राजाओं में विद्या की पूजा होती है, धन की नहीं। इसलिए विद्याविहीन पशु हि है।

English Translation: Knowledge is a special form of human being, it is a hidden wealth. She is the giver of enjoyment, the giver of fame, and the giver of happiness. Vidya is the guru of gurus, she is man’s friend in foreign countries. Knowledge is a great god; Knowledge is worshiped among kings, not wealth. That’s why he is an animal without education.

अलसस्य कुतो विद्या अविद्यस्य कुतो धनम्।
अधनस्य कुतो मित्रममित्रस्य कुतः सुखम्॥

रूपयौवनसंपन्ना विशाल कुलसम्भवाः।
विद्याहीना न शोभन्ते निर्गन्धा इव किंशुकाः॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: रुपसंपन्न, यौवनसंपन्न, और चाहे विशाल कुल में पैदा क्यों न हुए हों, पर जो विद्याहीन हों, तो वे सुगंधरहित केसुडे के फूल की भाँति शोभा नहीं देते।

English Translation: Even if they are beautiful, full of youth, and may be born in a big family, but those who are devoid of education, they do not look as good as the fragrance-less kesuda flower.

विद्याभ्यास स्तपो ज्ञानमिन्द्रियाणां च संयमः।
अहिंसा गुरुसेवा च निःश्रेयसकरं परम्॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: विद्याभ्यास, तप, ज्ञान, इंद्रिय-संयम, अहिंसा और गुरुसेवा – ये परम् कल्याणकारक हैं।

क्षणे नष्टे कुतो विद्या कणे नष्टे कुतो धनम्॥

अतः श्वः करणीयानि कुर्यादद्यैव बुद्धिमान्॥

English Translation: No one knows what will happen tomorrow, so whatever work has to be done, do it today itself, this is the sign of an intelligent person.

नैनं छिद्रन्ति शस्त्राणि नैनं दहति पावक:।
न चैनं क्लेदयन्त्यापो न शोषयति मारुत॥

हिंदी अनुवाद: आत्मा को न शस्त्र काट सकते हैं, न आग उसे जला सकती है। न पानी उसे भिगो सकता है, न हवा उसे सुखा सकती है।

English Translation: Neither weapons can cut the soul, nor fire can burn it. Neither water can wet it, nor wind can dry it.

सर्वधर्मान्परित्यज्य मामेकं शरणं व्रज।
अहं त्वां सर्वपापेभ्यो मोक्षयिष्यामि मा शुच:॥
